Flor Blanca is widely used in popular and traditional medicine, generally the inflorescences are sold for the numerous healing properties in the markets of the coast (Chimbote, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Lambayeque, Lima) and Sierra (Cajamarca, Celendín, Jaén, Huamachuco, Pataz, Sihuas).
Often is sold together with other medicinal plants and labeled Embolsada. The preparation can be pure or mixed with other medicinal plants like Equisetum giganteum “Horse tail”, Bixa leaves, Orellana “Achiote”, Niphidium crassifolium rhizomes Lellinger “Calahuala”, Myrcianthes Rhopaloids (Kunth) McVaugh “Boldo Peruano”, Piper Aduncum “Matico” leaves and “Cat’s Claw” Uncaria Guianensis and Tomentosa.
In these markets, it is usually indicated that both the mixture and the pure form must be boiled and then consumed to treat the problems of the ovaries and uterus, it is also used as therapeutic of urinary tract in general, in this regard, the use of leaves in the form of decoction for leukorrhea. Is know to posses purifying and sedative action.
Researches indicates that it is used in traditional medicine as an antibacterial and disinfectant.
